2020 - Plastic packaging ban 'could harm environment'

The move to use to plastic alternatives, can mean that you are potentially harming the environment more than using plastic and (Importantly) disposing of the plastic in a positive way (Recycled or sent to Clean Waste to Energy plants).

As reported in the BBC Website, those are the findings of the UK Pressure Group The Green Alliance. The three main takeaways are:

- Plastic bags are better for the environment than paper bags if reused and disposed of correctly. - Glass has a higher environmental cost than plastic. This is because glass is heavier and means more lorries and a higher transportation footprint. - Biodegradable bags are not a good alternative. They break down into microplastics. There is only one plant in the UK that can process them correctly.
